SPANCAN
Spancan is one of the largest Buying Groups in Canada. Established in 1999, the group represents independent businesses specializing in hardware and home improvement retailing and distribution. Spancan covers a vast majority of Canada’s rural markets and holds a major portion of the market for home improvement in Canada. Their vendors include some of the best home improvement suppliers in North America. Key members include: Timbermart Dealers, Federated Co-Op, and ILDC.
Process
Building supplies dealers across Canada have traditionally purchased collated fasteners from multiple suppliers in an attempt to offer a complete selection to their customers. This can result in fastener aisles becoming cluttered with too many different products, making the shopping experience harder to navigate and creating a negative customer experience. Without a single-source, comprehensive program, dealers were often stocking the same item in multiple brands. This leads to tying up excess money in inventory and wasting valuable shelf space, ultimately contributing to diminished profitability.
