When it comes time to look at ways to increase your profits on jobs, just like sports teams it’s paying attention to the little things that can make the biggest difference. This week we chatted with Bissett’s service department in Coquitlam about the importance of lubricating your tool.
You may remember our first discussions around tool lubrication during our Tool Tip Tuesday video series with Justin, Bissett’s head office Service Manager. Just the simple task of properly oiling your tools will cut down your tool maintenance costs and increase the profits on a job.
“One of the little things that we see in the service department, is the lack of oil in the pneumatic nail guns and staplers coming in for repair. We also see the same tools coming back more often than properly maintained tools, this means higher tool maintenance costs being charged against the jobsite they came from. When pneumatic tool oil is properly used in your nail guns or staplers it allows the o-rings to keep a proper seal but still allows them to move freely. Without proper oiling o-rings overheat, causing them to seal too tightly. This causes nail guns and staplers to be sluggish and prematurely wear out the o-rings.” – Ted Schmidt, Assistant Service Manager
When you hear coaches talking about successful teams they always say the same thing, “they do the little things really well”. So let’s get your crews to start doing the little things by adding 5 drops of pneumatic gun oil to their tools before they start in the morning and another 4 drops in the early afternoon. These simple steps will help not only to reduce your costs, but will also save you downtime.
