Today’s topic is a serious one that can have major consequences on safety and warranty. This post breaks down the risks of modifying your tool’s trigger system, and why it’s never worth the shortcut.

What Is a Dangerous Modification?

One of the most common modifications we see in the service department is users tampering with the nailer’s trip mechanism.

This includes:

  • Removing or altering the trigger spring
  • Bypassing the contact trip
  • Using zap straps or tape to hold the trigger in
  • Disabling safety locks

These changes are usually made to speed up work. But the cost is safety, reliability, and warranty coverage.

We get why it’s tempting. But this kind of shortcut can end up costing you much more than it saves.

Why It’s Never Worth the Risk

1. You Void Your Warranty

Any unauthorized modification to your tool immediately voids the manufacturer’s warranty. That means you’re on the hook for all future service and replacement costs.

2. You Increase Risk of Injury

Removing a tool’s safety trip system or modifying the trigger can cause it to fire unintentionally, putting your crew and yourself at serious risk.

One slip and you could have:

  • Accidental discharges
  • Severe injuries
  • Jobsite shutdowns

OSHA and Canadian safety regulations require that tools retain their safety mechanisms. Disabling them isn’t just dangerous, it’s likely illegal on most sites.

3. There Are Safer Options Available

Need a faster workflow? Talk to your Bissett rep about tool options with sequential or bump fire modes. These models are engineered for efficiency and safety – without compromising compliance or warranty.
